I'm gonna help you get started on Clarion. When you open the Clarion, you'll be met with the Play screen. An arrangement of shapes on the Play screen is called a pattern. There are loads of patterns to choose from, and if you've got a paid version of Clarion, you can even create your own. Well, let's start by playing the pattern that should be on your screen when you first open the instrument. If you are using an iPad, try sliding your fingers around the colored circles. And if you're on a Windows PC, try moving your mouse around. You should hear a different musical note for each shape. Did you notice that the shapes are loud at the top and quiet at the bottom? And where the shapes overlap, you can play both notes at once, which is how you play chords. So let's change the pattern we're playing. To begin with, click the menu button in the top left hand corner of the screen and open the menu. Now there's a lot to explore here, but for now, let's click where it says First steps. At the top of the screen clicking that will open a folder with six different patterns in it. The pattern you currently have loaded is highlighted in blue, and there's a description of it at the bottom of the screen. So let's load the fifth pattern along. Click it once. It will get highlighted in blue, and if you click it again, you'll get taken to the Play screen. Now this pattern is great for people using eye gaze technology. You can rest your eyes in the middle of the screen and then move up or down to play notes. You'll notice that the shapes are louder towards the top and bottom of the screen and quieter towards the middle. Now, Clarion also comes with lots of well-known melodies to play. So let's try one out. Now all of the patterns are organized into folders. To access those folders, click the menu button and then click this folder button. The pattern you currently have loaded is stored in the first steps folder, which is why that folder is highlighted in blue. But let's load a pattern from the Happy Birthday folder. Tap or click the Happy Birthday folder once to select it. It'll turn blue, and then you can click it again to open the folder. Let's play the second pattern along. Click it twice to load it. And now you can play Happy Birthday by sliding your finger around the shapes in a snake-like pattern. Next up, let's change the sound. Clarion has 13 instrument sounds built in to change it. Click the menu button again, and then select sounds. The screen should look like this. You can see the sound you currently have selected 'cause it'll be highlighted in blue, and you can use the keyboard at the bottom of the screen to see what its sounds like. Let's try the flute. Click it once and it will turn blue. And then click the play button in the top left hand corner of the screen. And now you can play Happy Birthday on the flute. Happy birthday. I is a fun pattern to play. But remember that Clarion isn't just a lead instrument. You can be really expressive using just a single note. And for many young people, that's a great place to start. If you're teaching with the Clarion, an easy way to introduce it is just to bring it out. Playing the Clarion is really intuitive. Tap the note, slide your finger around. Just have fun playing it in your way. I hope you've enjoyed this introduction to Clarion. Please do watch our other videos and subscribe to our channel for more clarion tips and news.
